Carlo Mauri piton

The story that Jim Bridwell told me is that he and his partner were putting up a new route on the Grand Capusan in Chamonix France naming the route Odyssey. Odyssey joins a already existing route named the Lecco route which Carlo Mauri was on the first ascent. Just before the last pitch Jim's partner leads up and is then belaying Jim where Jim stops to remove the two ring pitons he came across. Jim's partner yells to Jim to get climbing, but Jim yells back, "But I can get $50 out of Marty for each of these." These awesome pitons were made by Carlo Mauri in 1952/53.

Hello Marty!
I was living in Chamonix last year and was climbing on the Grand Capucin and found an old piton that I never recognized either, until now! While looking for the other logo, I found the page for the Carlo Mauri pitons and I couldn’t believe it. It matches it completely… similar style to what Bridwell found on the Lecco route. I had found it just laying on the glacier below the face and must have fallen out all on its on. Very cool piece of history!
