The 1975, 1976, and 1977 GPIW (Chouinard) catalog all have the same catalog cover. Through research there was only two catalogs produced over the three year period. When new products were added the Chouinard company just randomly printed a updated catalog. So originally the catalog was only made for the 1975 year, and then reprinted for the 1977 year. Climbing gear collectors have separated this guidebook by saying the 1975 version is the one that has printed 1975 in the "Firsts List," and the Hexentrics shown within are solid. The 1976 version has printed 1975 in the "Firsts List," and the Hexentrics shown within have drilled lightening holes. The 1977 version has printed 1977 in the "Firsts List," and lists the new 1977 Featherweight Carabiner. However I have found a second version of the 1976 price list. The 1977 catalog is the first to mention Patagonia in the clothing products wordage. The Hexentrics listed in the 1975 catalog have solid sides.
Salewa Ice Screws are listed, in Tubular and in Spiral. Crack'n-ups I have seen spelled many ways within the Chouinard catalogs. Looking at the Firsts List in this catalog it is spelled Crackin'ups. The Chouinard 1973 supplement catalog is first to show Crack'n-ups. The Crack'n-ups went trough additional testing where the #1 was too thin for public use. But for some reason the #1 is still listed in the 1975 catalog. But in the wordage it is mentioned that Crack'n-ups will be available in the Spring. |
