In the past, Supertopo.com’s Forum threads were the most incredible collections of climbing information on the planet. All sorts of thread titles were created and people from around the world were sharing, and the treads continued to get bigger and bigger and bigger. Besides the overall text, photos were accompanying the sharing, and you could feel the personalities of the people that were on the site. But the way Supertopo was set up, when a new text was added to the already established thread the person could only edit the newer text within only a couple days time, then the text got locked in. Only the very first post on a new thread was able to be edited at all times.
But what I discovered was that when a photo was uploaded onto the thread, the text that accompanied the photo could be edited at all times as well. So I started to put all of my important research and explanation wordage in the photo boxes. But then came February 2019, when it was announced that the Forum was no longer accepting photos to be added, and to go further with that, all photos were removed from the entire Forum site. So millions of precious photos from many thousands of people were instantly ……. gone! This was a sad day for sure for the history of rock climbing and other. 10 years of my fun and sharing of facts and photos were gone, and since the photo went away, the information that was also in the photo boxes, was removed as well. Only the raw text of the Forum threads were saved and to this day, is still available to be viewed. Before the Forum changed to text only, I did spend some time to screen shot some of the pages that were associated to me, and many of the pages were about William Feuerer. Supertopo did announce when the cut off date was going to happen so I did my best to capture some of the conversations.
In my Supertopo links, I offer the present link to the particular thread that still exists, and my screen shot versions that include the photos.
