Gripstone "Out Of Control Climbfest" February 26, 2022
Super fun climbing competition!! 8 hours climb time. Top 10 problems/routes for score. 50 problems/routes to choose from. Many different ways to gain extra points by leading the routes, by flashing the problems/routes, and midway bonus points on some of the problems/routes. What I like about this competition is that the extended time the comp has gives the climber a opportunity to climb as much as they can within their personal ability. A failed flash on a route only loses a couple of points. So if there was a way to better the points that the climber already has achieved, it gives the climber a welcoming push to at least try, even if it only gains five or even one extra point. It is great to switch back and forth from the bouldering fun to the fun on the ropes. Many of the routes were on auto belay systems which totally was a blast!!! Silly fun challenges for the climbers followed the comp as the score cards were tallied. The friendly gym staff and volunteers were all awesome and psyched throughout the comp. Food, beverages, raffles and then the awards ceremony.
