Leeper nut tools c. early 1970s. Not sure exactly when Ed Leeper first offered his nut tools to the public, but this history shows that he did have two nut tools on the market pre 1975.
Ed Leeper created five different nut tool shapes. - The Clean Hooker - Slightly Smutty Hooker - The Hooker - The Jiggle-O - The Hustler
This is two drawn Leeper nut tools which are shown in a book named "The Climbers Sourcebook" from 1976. I don't think this shows that Leeper first made these nut tools in 1976 since in the 1982 Leeper catalog it is written that "in 1975 Leeper was creating the Hooker nut tool which only has 4 holes." So the Clean Hooker nut tool and the Slightly Smutty Hooker nut tool was made sometime pre 1976.
LEEPER - Clean Hooker nut tool - c. pre 1976
LEEPER - Slightly Smutty Hooker nut tool - c. pre 1976
LEEPER - Hooker nut tool - 1st generation (3 cuts on the end) - c. 1975
Leeper June 1980 catalog - Notice on the cover of the catalog it shows in the photo the 1st generation Hooker nut tool (3 cuts on end). But when going to the page that shows the nut tools, the photo shows the 2nd generation Hooker nut tool (2 cuts on end) and shows the 1st generation Jiggle-O (3 cuts on end) and also the Hustler nut tool.
LEEPER - Jiggle-O nut tool - 1st Generation (3 cuts on end) - c. sometime later 1970s, shows in the June 1980 Leeper catalog
LEEPER - Hustler nut tool - c. sometime later 1970s, shows in the June 1980 Leeper catalog - Capital "LEEPER" mfg mark - Gary Storrick photo
Leeper 1982 catalog (Salina Star route, Boulder CO) - I wonder if this is when the mfg mark went from capital LEEPER letters to lower case Leeper letters? - Shows 3rd generation Hooker nut tool (with notch) - Shows 2nd generation Jiggle-O nut tool (2 cuts on end) (small hole at hook) - Shows Hustler nut tool
Leeper Hustler nut tool - Lower case "Leeper" mfg mark - c.1982
Leeper - Jiggle-O nut tool - 2nd generation (2 cuts on end)(small hole at hook) - c.1982
