Marke Steinbock
piton

For now the piton is being classified the “Bill House” piton, or the Steinbock piton. Bill House did not create it but he is the piton donor. Technically the manufacturer is unknown at this time so any information on this piton is welcomed!!!

On the first word of the manufacturers mark the 4th letter is fuzzy. Not sure if it is a "K" or "R" or ?
So not sure if the first word is "MARKE." Second word "STEINBOCK" is clear.

Underneath is marked "INTERNATIONAL," and guessing the second word, ["RESERVE" ..... ?]
Not sure what the symbol in the middle of the wordage is.

c. .............? (year)

Hi John and Marty,

If the plan is simply to post a photo or photos of that piton at Marty’s website, then please be my guest. Bill House gave me that piton himself, sometime in the mid-1980s. I interviewed him for an article for either Summit or Climbing….can’t remember which! If he told me anything about the pin’s origins, I don’t remember.

John, it’s possible I have a clip of the article somewhere in my files, and if you need it I can try to dig it up. No guarantees, though. Of course, the AAC library will have it, though obviously it would be better to know the date…..

Cheers,

Dougald MacDonald

Dougald and John,

Thank you very much for allowing me to add the House piton to the piton page on my website.
Possibly somebody will come forward with further information about the piton.
On the piton itself one letter is a little fuzzy and I was wondering if you knew what that letter is.
Looks like "MAR_E STEINBOCK"
Hmmmm....
MARKE STEINBOCK?
MARRE STEINBOCK?
Hmmmm...
Also:
International Reserve?
Reserve wordage is fuzzy.

Awesome piton!!!!!

:)
