Bonjour,
“I live in Ajaccio on the island of Corsica where I worked for many years as a photographer. I have also been a collector of climbing equipment for many years now, specializing in "artificial chockstones". As a history buff, I have founded and been running the Nuts Museum here in Ajaccio.” Stephane Pennequin is a master collector specializing in rock climbing nuts and cam devices, as well as being knowledgable on a wide range of other climbing categories. I first started talking to Stephane back in the mid 1990s, and we became good friends from that time on, sending written letters back and forth to each other sharing our passion in collecting climbing gear. Stephane has written many articles for magazines showing his collection, and showing a compressive history story on the creation of the many amazing pieces of climbing gear that climbers have used through the years to ascend the mountain cliff walls all over the world.

Dear Marty!
“Who is the person wearing the absolutely fantastic tights in the photo I sent with my email?” It’s me my friend, it’s me…! This photo was taken in the mid nineties. I was leading the bolted sport climb Tumasgiucciu (Little Thomas in Corsican language). My very close friend, Jean-Toussaint Casanova, who sadly passed away on May 25th, 1996, bolted this slab a few years after the birth of my son Thomas. I first climbed this route on top-rope, and Jean-Toussaint bolted and named it Tumasgiucciu to please me. I am still moved as this route has become famous in such a middle grade. |
