Salewa Tubular ice screws

Chouinard Equipment sold Salewa Tubular ice screws in the late 1960s to mid 1970s. Looking through the Chouinard catalogs. Chouinard 1969 catalog mentions Salewa tubular ice screws 16cm and 20 cm length. Both of the Salewa ice screws listed have no slits cut on the tubes.

Chouinard late 1969 catalog version, the price list shows Salewa Tubular ice screws in sizes 21cm, 25cm, and 35cm, The 16cm size was dropped and the larger 35mm size was added. The 21cm size now comes with a slit cut into the tube. Also there is a mention of a Salewa spiral piton that was added to the Chouinard price list.

Salewa Spiral Piton
The Spiral piton can be hammered into the ice, then screwed back out.
The July 1971 Chouinard price list renames the Salewa Spiral piton and calls it a Salewa "Warthog."
Chouinard 1975 catalog adds the Salewa Tubular ice screw size 17cm to the price list. The Salewa "Warthog" was renamed Salewa Spiral Ice Screw.

In 1976 Chouinard produced their own tubular ice screw product and stopped carrying the Salewa Tubular ice screws and Spiral ice screw.
