In the 1972 Au Vieux Campeur catalog it shows a twisted ice piton listed as mfg Salewa. In the 1975 HeiHa catalog it shows the twisted ice piton as mfg Steidle. Presently in the museum is two twisted ice pitons marked Stubai, and a twisted ice piton with no marks listed as UNKNOWN #15 Ice Screw. So possibly the unmarked twisted ice piton may be Salewa.

Chouinard Equipment sold Salewa Tubular ice screws in the late 1960s to mid 1970s. Looking through the Chouinard catalogs. Chouinard 1969 catalog mentions Salewa tubular ice screws 16cm and 20 cm length. Both of the Salewa ice screws listed have no slits cut on the tubes.

Chouinard late 1969 catalog version, the price list shows Salewa Tubular ice screws in sizes 21cm, 25cm, and 35cm, The 16cm size was dropped and the larger 35mm size was added. The 21cm size now comes with a slit cut into the tube. Also there is a mention of a Salewa spiral piton that was added to the Chouinard price list.

The July 1971 Chouinard price list renames the Salewa Spiral piton and calls it a Salewa "Warthog."
