Sport - Hummel - Innsbruck
- I have not seen these pitons before but they came in a ebay lot where all of the other climbing items in the lot dated to the 1940s. Two vertical pitons with a ring. But looking closer it appears that the rings were created first, then were added to the piton by cutting a slot into the piton to allow the ring to get into the piton hole. Then re-weld the cut channel and grind the surface smoother. Classic old school and then whala .... cool piton created. What I love most is the very fat but slim ring on one of the pitons, and on the other the thinner ring is also flat from the side view.
