Yaniro holds

Tony Yaniro started making climbing holds in 1988, and besides the Yaniro brand, from that time Tony became a hold shaper for many other businesses as well. Tony is known as "The Father of Sport Climbing."

Climbing holds first stated in Europe in 1986, and in the USA in 1988. Tony is one of the earliest shapers and creators  of climbing holds in the USA. Showing is a hold that Tony made in 1988, which he has signed and donated to the Karabin Museum 8/2024. I have a lot of ancient holds in the museum, but knowing that this particular hold goes back to the those beginning years of which all holds began, and its a treasure of Tony's, I am very honored!!

From Tony:
This is one of the first resin based holds I made..  moldless formed,  we had not gotten into molding yet
My original Yaniro holds were made by me off the grid.. not for a company.  It wasn't until I started shaping for Straight Up holds in the '90s that they became officially "Yaniro" holds (resin based ).
Straight up used my original molds until they wore out (actually were stolen after that and someone unknown was black market selling them -- I never found out who...
I also was shaping for many other companies that were basically looking to use my name for advertising.
Decades later Atomik officially made a deal to remold my holds for royalties.
Thanks,
Tony
