From a Charlet Moser catalog:

In 1880, at the foot of Mont Blanc, Joseph Charlet designed his first ice axe at the request of English Mountaineers. A great trade name was born which has carried the Charlet name through the generations.

In 1960 a member of another family, Gerald Moser, joined the existing chief, Germain Charlet. Forming a new partnership and joining their names, the firm became Charlet Moser.

With the combination of business know how and love for the mountains guiding the enterprise they were at the centre of the innovation and development of ice axes and crampons.

Charlet Chamonix horizontal piton

- No "Moser" mark
- c. 1950s
- I do not know who the initials "JBO" represent.

I know that Charlet started creating pitons in the 1950s. Showing a 1950s Charlet horizontal piton. Basically it is a vertical piton where at the end of the blade it was twisted a 1/4 turn creating a very beautiful piton. The Moser addition came in 1960. Over the years there was not many changes made to the overall pitons so basically a 1960 Charlet Moser Universel piton is the same as a 1980s Charlet Moser Universel piton, etc.
