This is the first mandala of the series of mandalas I created named "Jungle Music." I sent the design to Hallmark cards to see if they would make cards with the design or make bandanas with it, but I kept getting denied. So I printed 500 copies of the design and gave away a bunch of them to friends as gifts. The majority went into the trash during the few house floods I went through. Completed November 1983. 15 1/2" x 15 1/2" black ink on white poster board. 250 hours.
I really love how clean of a design this mandala turned out. Perfect uniform circles named "The Infinite Circle." The outer circles were created with drafting templates, but filling the circles in was done entirely by hand. Completed April 1984. 15 1/2" x 15 1/2" black ink on white poster board. 200 hours.
I was really into creating black and white drawings, but then wanted to mix it up a little by adding a color into the mandala. The red color really pops and gives the mandala life. Named "Colle-Flower." For the center detail I tried to get away from the usual perfection I try to achieve, and created the inner circles keeping them somewhat scrappy. This was a fun piece to create. Completed April 1984. 15 1/2" x 15 1/2" color ink on white poster board. 150 hours.
